GURGAON: Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari along with visitors at the ongoing Auto Expo in Greater Noida were impressed by the country’s first driverless shuttle — Novus-Drive. The vehicle was unveiled at the Auto Expo on February 3.
The Automated Guided Vehicle( AGV),manufactured by Gurgaon-based Hi-Tech Robotic Systems Ltd (THRSL), has been ferrying visitors from one pavilion to another.
“I am delighted to see the vehicle that does not require a driver. This vehicle has not only been made in India ,but it also addresses environmental concerns. It gives me immense pleasure to see the young generation involved in R&D,” a company communiqué quoted Gadkari.
Novus- Drive is the first driverless shuttle to be made in the country and has a capacity to seat 14 people. It can navigate on its own using high fidelity sensors and robust algorithms for path planning and navigation.
“The vehicle is manufactured at the THRSL’s Gurgaon facility. All its research and development were also done in Gurgaon,” a company statement said.
Among other features, what makes the vehicle stand out is its battery-run mechanism that is environment friendly. Novus-Drive runs 150 kilometres per electric charge (a unit of battery operated vehicles).
The user can enter the destination on a tablet mounted on the vehicle. Once the destination is entered, the vehicle starts its journey.
It reaches the destination without any hiccups, pausing and moving according to the direction and road congestion(COURSTEY THE HINDUSTAN TIMES FEB5)
