Blockades in Pb, Haryana; Clash In Mukerian

The bandh called to protest against demolition of the Ravidas temple in Delhi's Tughlaqabad impacted normal life at many places in Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday. There was a complete shutdown in many

towns, especially in the Doaba belt, which has the highest concentration of the Ravidassia/Adi-dharmi community.

The bandh was largely peaceful, but police had to fire in the air at Harse Maansar, a small town between Mukerian and Pathankot, to stop a clash between protesters and shopkeepers.

Road traffic was disrupted at many places due to blockades, including the Jalandhar-Delhi and Una-Chandigarh highways. Some protesters also stalled rail traffic near Phagwara.

The strike had an impact in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda and Gurdaspur.

In Haryana, members of Ravidassia groups blocked the busy NH-44 for two hours in Karnal, causing a massive traffic jam and inconveniencing commuters.

Protest marches and dharnas were witnessed in many towns of north Haryana.
