The Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in Haryana seems to be on a hiring spree in view of the state assembly elections slated for October this year.

In the past one week, the state government has advertised for selection of 8,385 posts for male and female constables, patwari (revenue officials) and gram sachiv (village secretary). Sources confirmed to TOI that an equal number of posts are also expected to be advertised by the end of June.

The state’s recruiting agency, Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) has been asked to carry out massive recruitment drive before the elections, the sources told TOI. Majority of these are Group-C and Group-D level posts.

The ruling BJP has decided to recruit candidates for such a large number of posts after getting feedback that employment is top priority for the voters in the state, the sources added.

The BJP had claimed to have received positive response in the recently-concluded parliamentary polls from the voters, especially in rural areas, due to recruitment of constables, which it claimed was done purely on merit in a transparent manner and without any interview for the first time.

“One or two candidates were selected in every village but due to fair selection this time a positive message was conveyed to those preparing for future selections.

They also voted for our party in these elections for providing jobs on merit. Because of shrinking of landholdings, unemployment is a major issue in Haryana,” said a senior BJP leader.

When contacted, Rajiv Jain, the Haryana chief minister’s media adviser, claimed that around 10,000-12,000 more posts would be advertised by the end of this month.

When asked about completion of the selection process before the assembly polls, Jain claimed that the selection process of all the advertised posts was being managed in such a manner that it would be completed within time.
