Ban ends, Yogi brings up Bajrang Bali, Balakot and ‘Babur ki aulad’
MEERUT:After the Election Commission’s 72-hour ban on campaigning by him ended, chief minister Yogi Adityanath again referred to Bajrang Bali and the Balakot air strikes at an election rally in Sambhal on Friday.

“Do you want to hand over the rule (power) to those who oppose Bajrang Bali,” Adityanath said at the rally after offering prayers at the Kaila Devi temple.

He also targeted the SP-BSPRLD alliance’s Sambhal candidate Shafiq-ur-Rehman Barq by describing him as ‘Babur ki aulad (descendant of Babur)’ .

The chief minister’s comment prompted Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to demand that the Election Commission ban Adityanath from campaigning again.

The EC on Monday had barred Adityanath from campaigning for 72 hours starting 6 am on Tuesday for his comments at a rally in Meerut. The ban ended on Thursday.

Adityanath had said at the rally, “If the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the BSP have faith in Ali, we have faith in Bajrang Bali.”

For his part, Adityanath claimed at the Sambhal rally that while the BJP governments provided the benefits of welfare schemes without discrimination, during Congress rule the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said that Muslims had the first right to the country’s resources. He asked “What kind of politics is the Congress doing?” Targeting BSP chief Mayawati, he said she asked Muslims to unite and vote for the SP-BSP alliance. “But we never asked for votes in the name of caste and religion. We counted on our developmental work, the service of Modiji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) who made foolproof arrangements for the country’s security. The forces and government destroyed the terrorist camps inside enemy territory through surgical strike and airstrikes under the prime minister’s leadership. The whole world is appreciating the valour of the Indian armed forces. Therefore, the BJP should get support from the public.”

The crowd welcomed Adityanath with slogans of Jai Bajrang Bali and Jai Shri Ram.

Launching a scathing attack on SP, BSP and Congress, he said Mayawati was seeking votes for a leader (Azam Khan), who insulted Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar and also used objectionable words for “daughters and sisters”.

“Our government has formed the anti-Romeo squad for people like Azam Khan,” he said.

He asked the crowd: “Will you vote for those who refuse to sing Vande Mataram, hesitate in garlanding the statue of Dr Ambedkar and entering Kela Devi temple?”

He predicted that SP, BSP and Congress will get no seats in the first two phases of polling held so far.

Describing the flags of SP and BSP as those of goons, Adityanath said those who play with the honour of women will either land in jail or be eliminated.

Highlighting his government’s achievements, he claimed crime was at a record low in the first two years of his tenure.

“In the three remaining years (of his government), you will see the fate of the rest of the criminals,” he said.
