Notice to Hry min, son on ‘threat to life’ plea

The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued notice to Haryana education minister Ram Bilas Sharma and his son on a plea filed by a Mahendergarh resident alleging a “threat to his life” from them. The court has also sought replies from Haryana director general of police (DGP), Rewari IGP and Mahendergarh SP on the issue.

Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan has issued the notice after taking cognisance of a petition filed by an MBBS student, Kuldeep, who is a resident of Khaira village in Mahendergarh district.

The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued a notice to the Punjab CM, Captain Amarinder Singh and his son Raninder Singh on a plea filed by the income-tax department in a case of alleged income-tax evasion. P 4

‘Falsely implicated in 6-7 cases at behest of min’

While issuing notice in the case on March 29, Justice Sangwan observed, “Prayer in this petition is for issuance of direction to the officials — state DGP, IGP and SP Mahendergarh — to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner at the hands of respondents (Haryana minister Ram Bilas Sharma and his son Gautam Sharma) and to issue an advance notice to the petitioner in case any FIR/criminal case is registered against him.”

Counsel for the petitioner, Harjit Yadav, has informed the HC that the petitioner is a brilliant student but the minister’s family has a grouse against him and he has been falsely implicated in 6-7 criminal cases at behest of minister, so that he discontinues studies.

The counsel also alleged that the minister and his son are “indulging in illegal mining” and had “encroached on municipal council land with the help of a local gangster Surender alias Chikku”. “The minister and his son want to eliminate the petitioner or want to implicate him in false cases. He had already given representation to the DGP, seeking protection of his life and liberty, but no assurance of safety or security has been provided...,” the counsel had submitted in the petition.

The matter has been fixed for hearing on May 13
