Sukhbir, Brahmpura plan rallies in each other’s constituencies
Brahmpura to corner Sukhbir on sacrilege row while Badal jr will also target Ajnala in his bastion
AMRITSAR : Former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal (SADTaksali) president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura are planning to target each other’s bastions ahead of the general elections.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also the president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) along with former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia is scheduled to visit Naurangabad village in Khadoor Sahib constituency on January 22 while Brahmpura along with other SAD (Taksali) leaders will visit Jalalabad, Sukhbir’s home turf, on January 21.

Sukhbir Badal will hold one to one meeting with the workers of Khadoor Sahib constituency while Brahmpura will corner Sukhbir and Majithia over the ‘sacrilege’ incidents during the SAD government in Jalalabad.

Besides holding workers meeting in each other’s home turf, Sukhbir and Brahmpura will also organise workers meeting in Ajnala and Bathinda on January 21 and 23 respectively. Ajnala is the home turf of SAD (Taksali)’s senior vice president and former MP Dr Rattan Singh Ajnala while Bathinda is the bastion of Sukhbir’s wife and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Brahmpura’s nephew Alwinderpal Singh Pakoke, who was appointed in-charge of Khadoor Sahib constituency, by the SAD, said, “Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia will hold one to one meetings with more than one thousand workers of Khadoor Sahib constituency in Naurangabad.”

He further said a huge conference was also being organised in Khadoor Sahib very soon. “SAD’s patriarch Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Badal and other senior leadership of the party will attend the conference. The exact date of the conference will be made public soon,” he added.

A party insider said as the Congress MLA from Khadoor Sahib Ramanjit Singh Sikki has been almost ‘invisible’, workers will be encouraged by Sukhbir Badal’s visit against Brahmpura.

Attacking Sukhbir over sacrilege row, Brahmpura said, “Sukhbir and Majithia have been baffled with our increasing influence and party’s size. People of Khadoor Sahib revere Guru Granth Sahib and will not let the Badals fool them this time.”

He said, “We are also holding a worker meeting in Jalalabad on January 21. In the meeting, we will inform workers about the sins committed by Sukhbir Badal and his brother-in-law while the SAD government was in power. Both are responsible for the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, and firing incidents in Behbal Kalan and Kotakpura.”

“We are also organising a workers meeting in Bathinda on January 23. People from whole of Punjab, including Jalalabad and Bathinda, are joining our force in thousands on daily basis. Our main motive is to expose real side of Sukbir and Majithia, who decimated the panthic organisation of Punjab,” said Ravinder Singh, Brahmpura’s son.

SAD’s spokesperson Virsa Singh Valtoha said, “Besides holding workers meeting in Khadoor Sahib, Sukhbir Badal will also hold meetings in Ajnala and Tarn Taran constituencies on January 21 and 24. Sukhbir Badal will listen the grievances of the workers.”

Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, who is also a member of Parliament (MP), was expelled from SAD, as was his son Ravinder Singh Brahmpura and former MP Rattan Singh Ajnala and his son Amarpal Singh on November 11, 2018, while former minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan was expelled from the party on November 4, 2018.
