Congress’ Diwali gift to BJP: Ticket for MP CM’s brother-in-law

Congress sprung a surprise on BJP on Diwali by giving a party ticket to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s brother-in-law Sanjay Singh Masani, who joined the opposition party four days ago and announced Madhya Pradesh “needs Kamal Nath, not Shivraj”.

Masani’s name figures on the fourth list released by Congress on Wednesday evening. He has been fielded from Waraseoni constituency of Balaghat district, which had swung from Congress to BJP in 2013. The fourth list, which has 29 names, covers the crucial Mandsaur seat, where Congress has fielded former minister Narendra Nahata. Mandsaur was the epicentre of the 2017 farmer agitation that saw violent protests, leading to death of six farmers. There is palpable resentment in the farming community and Congress hopes to cash in on that.

There are five women on the list. on the Also, Congress took the lead in announcing names for the prestigious Indore 1 and Indore 4 seats. Both parties were in wait and watch mode on Indore constituencies, but Congress has shown its aggressive intent by announcing its lineup ahead of BJP.

In Indore, the ticket went to former corporator Preeti Agnihotri, wife of Golu Agnihotri who was was replaced by Deepu Yadav.
