Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Ajay Singh Chautala on Monday struck a combative note against the leadership of the party saying that he and the cadres will fight back to protect the prestige of the workers.

Addressing the INLD workers for the first time after eruption of turmoil in the party leading to expulsion of his two sons, Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala and Digvijay Singh, he warned that no one will be allowed to have monopoly on the party.

He addressed the workers immediately after being released from Tihar jail on parole.
Although he did not name anyone, it was more than clear that his outbursts were directed against his brother Abhay Singh, Leader of the Opposition in Haryana Assembly, who is calling the shots in the party.

He lauded his father and party patriarch Om Prakash Chautala and former Deputy Prime Minister, late Devi Lal, and pledged to abide by their ideologies.

The party stood vertically split at the event today with about half a dozen sitting MLAs, a good number of former legislators, incumbent office-bearers ranging from state to district level attending it and expressing solidarity with the father-son duo (Ajay Singh and Dushyant).

“The workers will create a situation compelling Om Prakash Chautala to invite Dushyant to take over the reins of the party,” Ajay Singh said

“Party kisi ki bapauddi nahi hai. (No one has birth right over the party). The party belongs to workers who have nourished it with toil and blood,” he added, and cautioned Abhay and his acolytes in the party to be prepared for a backlash from workers if they did not desist from autocratic ways in INLD’s affairs.

He announced that he would visit all district headquarters to seek opinion of workers to chart out his course of action, and ways to save the party.

It will commence form tomorrow from Jhajjar and conclude at Jind on November 17.

He lauded Om Prakash Chautala and Devi Lal, and asked workers not to raise any question on the family or use offensive language against any leader.

He was critical of Abhay and his supporters for accusing party leaders for being in league with the Congress.

He stressed that no one has authority to dissolve INSO —the student wing of the party — as he had founded it.

Speaking on the occasion, Dushyant praised Om Prakash Chautala and Devi Lal. He said he would abide by the decision of his father.

Ajay Singh is serving jail term with his father in the JBT teachers’ recruitment scam.

The party has been rocked on account of a feud for supremacy. It came to fore at the party’s October 7 rally when supporters of Dushyant demanded his projection as chief ministerial face of the party.

Abhay Singh’s speech was disrupted. Om Prakash Chautala was present on the dais on the occasion.

Subsequently, Dushyant and Digvijay were expelled from party
