PM and Amit Shah reportedly rebuke Rupani, Nitin Patel

Chief minister Vijay Rupani and deputy chief minister Nitin Patel have reportedly come under fire from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah over the poor handling of the crisis triggered by the attacks on North Indians in Gujarat.

A key source aware of the developments said, “Rupani and Patel have been reprimand by the PM and Shah for their failure to control the violence against labourers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.” The source said that the attacks have been particularly worrying for the BJP top brass because they have come in the run-up to elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar have spoken to Rupani and expressed their grave concern over the violence. Rupani and Patel are under tremendous pressure as the violence has tarnished Gujarat’s image as a peaceful and labour-friendly state ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2019.
