No threat to Congress MLA Dalal: Haryana to high court
DALAL HAD TOLD THE COURT THAT HE WAS THREATENED BY INLD LEADER ABHAY CHAUTALA EARLIER THIS MONTH

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Friday told the Punjab and Haryana high court that there was no threat to the “life and liberty” of Congress MLA Karan Singh Dalal, who has approached the court seeking ‘Y’ category security cover from the state.

State advocate general BR Mahajan told the court that a security audit was carried out with regard to the security of Dalal and it was found that there was no immediate threat to his life and liberty.

The state responded to the petition of Dalal, who had told the court that he was threatened by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala earlier this month, regarding which he had also approached the Chandigarh police to register an FIR.

Dalal also told court that as per a 2016 security audit carried out by the Delhi police, he was recommended a security cover due to threat perception.

The same was conveyed to the Haryana government as well, but the state did not act on it, he added.

Dalal told the court that the assessment was carried out as he is a witness against jailed INLD chief and former chief minister Om Prakash Chautlala (Abhay’s father) and some of his family members in a disproportionate assets case which is under trial in a Delhi court. Chautala and his son Ajay Chautala are serving 10-year jail in the junior basic trained (JBT) teacher recruitment scam.

Dalal had recently held a press conference in Sirsa, considered an INLD stroghold, and dared Chautala to kill him there, Mahajan told the court. Had there been any threat to the life of Dalal, he would not have dared Chautala in Sirsa, he added.

The matter has now been posted for hearing on Oct ber 3.
