A petition has been filed before the Gujarat High Court alleging illegal occupation of Rs 300 crore land by family of the BJP MLA from Porbandar Babu Bokhiria at Jamjodhpur taluka of Jamnagar district. The petition was placed for hearing on Friday but could not be heard due to paucity of time. Now, it will be heard on Tuesday.

The plea was moved by Parvada Gram Panchayat where the huge tract of land is located; the collector has started proceedings to hand it over to Veer Trading Co, the firm run by sons and sons-in-law of Bokhiria.

“This is a huge scam of Rs 2,000 crore as the reserved forest land which is the habitat of sizeable number of wild animals is going to be handed over to Bokhiria family for industrial use,” said BM Mangukia, counsel for the petitioner.

He said, “Bokhiria family purchased the land as the land has high quality reserve of limestone and soda ash worth Rs 2,000 crore. The land was earlier illegally acquired by Bokhiria’s men by making false power of attorneys and has now been handed over to the family firm.”

However, Bokhiria denied the allegations. “We did nothing wrong and we drew the sale deed by adhering to due procedure of law. I invite mediapersons to the spot to check the reality.’’ The plea stated, “The land was allotted to the forest department by the government in year 2000 and later, a huge amount was spent for afforestation. Now the land is sought to be declared as non-forest area by the Collector.”

“The 200 hectares of land originally belong to persons from minority community and before it was handed over to forest department, the whole process of acquiring land was undertaken behind the back of those original owners and false sale deeds executed in the name of stooges of Bokhiria. This property is worth about Rs 20 lakhs per bigha. Now they transferred the land to Veer Trading Co. The property is worth about Rs 300 crores.”

“It is very rich so far as forest is concerned. A total of100 thousand trees have been planted and naturally grown, which are valuable commercially and otherwise. Bokhiria wants to exploit this forest land for his personal purpose. The collector has ignored 18 civil suits preferred by 18 original land owners. The original land owners claimed that this is a private property and does not belong to the government.
