WhatsApp has a plan for group spam

WhatsApp has a plan for group spam
The app will soon start flagging messages that are forwarded en masse and encourage use of its upcoming stickers
In a bid to stop mass-level spam circulation on its platform, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that will show the prompt “Forwarded Message” if a post has been forwarded from another group or from one of the members in the same chat group.

“Forwarded Message” will appear on top of every post that spammers forward to groups en masse.

The feature has been spotted by wabetainfo.com that follows WhatsApp Google Play Beta Programme.

“Today, WhatsApp has modified the behaviour of the feature, that will show on the bubble (when the feature will be enabled in future), a “Forwarded Message” string, if the message has been forwarded from another chat (or from the same chat),” the website reported.

When a message is forwarded several times, the label will appear on the bubble.

The labelling will be carried on posts that a user may send to multiple contacts by selecting them in his contacts list, picking the data up from the Internet, or from some registration services.

Messages that may contain unwanted advertising and fake news, and ones that invite you to forward them to your contacts could also get flagged.

At present, WhatsApp does not block the forwarding of a message more than 25 times.

To reduce the instances of spam, WhatsApp plans to introduce stickers, which can freely be forwarded to other users and groups.

Stickers are popular with users of other messaging apps, uncluding Facebook Messenger and Telegram.

The Facebook-owned messaging service has not announced when, or even if, these features will be made publicly available
