Congress, BJP in war of words post SC verdict

August 18, 2017 07:22 AM

Chandigarh, August 17
The Supreme Court verdict slamming the state government for the influence used by a firm to bag a mining lease has pitted Congress and BJP leaders against each other.
While Congress MLA from Palwal Karan Singh Dalal and CLP leader Kiran Choudhry today hit out at the government and Dalal even written to PM Narendra Modi demanding sacking of CM Manohar Lal Khattar, BJP spokesperson Rajiv Jain said the verdict was a “slap on Congress leaders’ faces”.
Dalal alleged that the judgment hinted towards a scam involving officers in the CMO and sought removal of Khattar as well as Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu. CLP leader Kiran tweeted: “Khattar Sahib, Bhrishtachar Par Zero Tolerance?” (Mr Khattar, where is your zero tolerance on corruption?)
Rajiv Jain said the mine was leased for Rs 40 crore per annum during the Congress regime while during BJP rule, it was leased for Rs 450 crore per annum in 2017. He alleged that the Dadam mine was leased during Congress regime in 2013 and after the BJP came to power, Dalal started building pressure on the government for allowing this mine to start by writing letters. The BJP leader accused Dalal of trying to befool people by twisting facts for his own benefits. — TN
